15th Annual Conference - April 5, 2025
Seneca Scientific Solutions+ presented at the 15th Annual Storytellers Conference in early April 2025. The conference, themed "Storytelling through Art, Language, and Action," was hosted by the UB Indigenous Studies Department at the Niagara Falls Convention Center.
Our CEO, Mr. Dean Seneca, MPH, MCURP, and Associate Director of Epidemiology and Public Health Sciences, Mr. Nicholas Blatto, MPH, presented on a very critical and emerging Tribal health topic: Reclaiming Indigenous Health by Developing Tribal Epidemiology Departments.
Epidemiology, as a scientific discipline in public health, provides the tools and skills necessary to reduce Indigenous health disparities that have persisted for centuries. By establishing tribally owned and operated epidemiology programs, Tribal Nations and Urban Indian communities can leverage their inherent public health authority, community, and cultural expertise to develop culturally appropriate, evidence-based public health response and prevention efforts. Programs operated directly by Tribes themselves offer a significant advantage over relying solely on external, western-centric local, state, and federal health departments.
